Let me tell you–I\u2019ve been excited to\u00a0<\/span>focus\u00a0<\/span>actively\u00a0<\/span>on<\/span>\u00a0exploring innovative partnerships and the use of technology to help us\u00a0<\/span>reach more healthcare and social service providers at Provide<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span>We dipped our toe in the waters of web-based programming this fall by partnering with\u00a0<\/span>Futures Without Violence<\/span><\/a>\u00a0on a webinar about how to combat stigma within domestic violence and reproductive healthcare services. Futures Without Violence (FWV)<\/a> is a national organization focused on creating healthy families and communities free of violence. This collaboration was a great fit, given our organizations\u2019 shared commitment to train healthcare and social service providers on improving their response to stigmatized issues like domestic violence and abortion. <\/span><\/p>\n

An added benefit of this collaboration was th<\/span>e opportunity to learn from\u00a0<\/span>FWV\u00a0<\/span>on how they\u2019ve built their<\/span>\u00a0infrastructure to host and disseminate webinars to a broad audience across the United States.\u00a0<\/span>This\u00a0<\/span>collaboration<\/span>\u00a0was a fantastic\u00a0<\/span>opportunity to promote our Provide\/FWV co-branded patient safety card<\/a>, and our abortion referrals tool<\/a>.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

We held the webinar in October, which is Domestic Violence Awareness Month, and were pleased to have 145 attendees who represented a broad\u00a0<\/strong><\/span>cross\u00a0section<\/strong>\u00a0of professionals, including direct client care providers and administrators.<\/strong> In addition to sharing our tools with a broader audience, we were able to experiment with using\u00a0<\/span>Stigma360 concepts<\/span><\/a> in a webinar. Participants learned how to recognize and address stigma in the workplace and received tools and strategies for making referrals and de-stigmatizing conversations around domestic violence and abortion care. Attendees were provided access to\u00a0<\/span>Provide\u2019s<\/span>\u00a0virtual\u00a0<\/span>Technical Assistance<\/span><\/a>\u00a0Library, giving them resources at their fingertips whenever they needed them to provide the best care to their clients and patients.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Unsurprisingly, in the post-webinar feedback\u00a0<\/span>surveys<\/span>,<\/span>\u00a0participants seemed interested in more tools and more training about how\u00a0<\/span>to re<\/span>s<\/span>pond to s<\/span>tigma\u00a0<\/span>and the ways it\u00a0<\/a><\/span>broadly shows up in service delivery. 93% of participants responded that they will probably use at least one of the tools presented in their practice.<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

This webinar provided a new avenue for us to encourage change around abortion referral practices<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>by reinforcin<\/span>g the importance of respecting client<\/span>\u00a0autonomy<\/span>\u00a0and self-determination<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>an<\/span>d<\/span>\u00a0honoring that everyone deserves to be treated with d<\/span>ignity and worth. <\/span>We are hopeful that expanding access to\u00a0<\/span>our\u00a0<\/span>trainings<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>and tools\u00a0<\/span>th<\/span>rough<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>the\u00a0<\/span>leveraging of partnerships and use of technology<\/span>\u00a0will<\/span>\u00a0h<\/span>ave<\/span>\u00a0a\u00a0<\/span>positive\u00a0<\/span>impact on\u00a0<\/span>reducing stigma and providing the highest quality of care<\/span>.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Developing and co-facilitating this webinar was a great experience and served as a test-run as we prepare to expand our delivery of web-based programming in 2020. <\/span><\/p>\n

I’m very excited to launch our own series of online webinars and workshops next year, focusing on topics such as strengthening skills around pregnancy options counseling, crafting a referrals policy and protocol in your workplace, providing quality case management using the STAR referral framework, and getting to know abortion providers. <\/span><\/p>\n
