{"id":5073,"date":"2020-04-27T09:42:30","date_gmt":"2020-04-27T13:42:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.providecare.org\/?p=5073"},"modified":"2024-09-16T19:21:16","modified_gmt":"2024-09-16T19:21:16","slug":"abortion-resources-during-covid-19-spotlight-oklahoma","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.providecare.org\/blog\/abortion-resources-during-covid-19-spotlight-oklahoma\/","title":{"rendered":"Abortion Resources During COVID-19: Spotlight on Oklahoma"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">The global response to the COVID-19 pandemic has been monumental and\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">communities large and small\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">are making<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0substantial changes\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">to preserve the health and well-being of their members<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">.\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">In some areas of the country however, legislators have used this public health crisis as a catalyst to further restrict abortion access<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">.\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">According to a\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.guttmacher.org\/article\/2020\/04\/covid-19-abortion-bans-would-greatly-increase-driving-distances-those-seeking-care\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">report<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">by the Guttmacher Institute, as of April 23, 2020, nine states have proposed legislation which would close abortion clinics during the quarantine under the auspices that this time-sensitive care is a non-essential service. These restrictions, if upheld by the courts, present significant barriers including increased driving times, time off work, cost for childcare, and delays due to provider capacity for individuals living in Alabama, Arkansas, Kentucky, Iowa, Louisiana, Ohio, Oklahoma, Tennessee, and Texas.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Provide continues to be a resource for organizations making real-time referrals for abortion care.<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0The geographic focus of\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">our<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">r<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">eferrals program<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> is in the Southeast, which encompasses many of the states which have proposed bans.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.providecare.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/April-2020-COVID-Map-2-01.png\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-5075 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.providecare.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/April-2020-COVID-Map-2-01.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.providecare.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/April-2020-COVID-Map-2-01.png 800w, https:\/\/www.providecare.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/April-2020-COVID-Map-2-01-300x225.png 300w, https:\/\/www.providecare.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/April-2020-COVID-Map-2-01-768x576.png 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h5>As of April 23, 2020, nine states have proposed legislation which would close abortion clinics during the quarantine under the auspices that this time-sensitive care is a non-essential service.<\/h5>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">To meet the needs of our partners, <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Provide\u2019s<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0state-based Program Implementation team is available for organizations who have questions about the status of abortion access in their region.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">In Oklahoma, one of the states where a ban was temporarily imposed, Trainer and Outreach Coordinator Kelli Lynch proactively supported t<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">he 30<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> organizations that <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">were<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0trained by Provide\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">in\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">201<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">9<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0by sharing a\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/ocrj.org\/news\/abortion-resources-covid19\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">resource guide<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0compiled by the <a href=\"https:\/\/ocrj.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Oklahoma Call for Reproductive Justice<\/a><\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">. This tool outlined the<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">regional resources and neighboring abortion providers available for state residents.
